It matters not how deep it is–
Good heavens, make it rhyme.
A poem’s music made with words–
For love’s sake, keep in time!
There’s nothing wrong with meter tight; it’s really not that hard;
Just tap into your love of music and your inner bard.
The most poetic sentiment comes out a garbled snore
If language doesn’t sing for you and meter you ignore.
Too many poets random-write as though it were a style;
Why add another verbal turd onto a giant pile?
Whatever avant-guarde idea is playing in your gourd,
With rhyme that’s tight and meter right, you will not be ignored.
So write of cats or potty training, anything’s alright,
So long as you have songful rhymes and sing in meter tight.
No matter what you have to say,
Please make it worth your time.
Lay down a tuneful meter and
For goodness’ sake, please rhyme!
